The works created for “Pierce, Push, Pull, Press” push the artist’s practice towards new limits. Continuing to explore the language developed so far, the artist seeks an immersive approach, similar to a representation under a microscope’s lens where the progressive and obsessive zoom gives an enigmatic representation of the subjects. Her hyper-realism becomes almost abstract: the trait is maniacal but it is difficult to decipher what it really represents. Playing with this ambiguity, Alejandra finds an innovative language to deal with one of the most classic themes: the human body. The artist always represents very limited parts of it, abstracting them from the general context. This allows the development of a multi-sensory approach to her works. Challenged by the difficulty of understanding the subject visually, we can focus on the other sensations that the painting suggests: sometimes a sensual erotic ambiguity, but predominantly an approach that I would define as tactile. An impulse to touch these bodies, their skin and the softness of their meatiness curled in the folds. It seems to express the dampness of these hands, where only jewels give any clues to orient us. As the title of the exhibition suggests, for Alejandra, bodies are not a static or statuary subject. On the contrary, it is in dynamism that the body expresses its most real and carnal traits. In order to grasp these details, the artist asks her friends to move their bodies: pushing, attracting, intertwining. Alicia Bilbao), KDR Common Skin Fantasy Alejandra Moros &amp; Alicia Bilbao September 5th - October 10th, 2026KDR is pleased to present Common Skin Fantasy, a two-person exhibition by Miami-based artists Alicia Bilbao and Alejandra Moros. Common Skin Fantasy marks the first time the two artists’ works have existed in dialogue, creating an environment where materials, conceptual references, and audience projections expand in uncanny ways that reflect the scope of both practices. Born in Heidelberg, Germany, and moving to Miami in her teenage years, Bilbao’s sculpture-based practice exists somewhere between the histories of fictional myths and the otherwise brutal psychological revelations that reality inevitably trails. Born in Miami, Moros’s multidisciplinary practice, taking shape primarily through painting within this exhibition, explores transformation, adaptation across psychological, ecological, and collective systems, and the mirrored possibilities of fiction. Introducing their works through the unusually apt reflections on the psychoanalytic concept by Didier Anzieu, Common Skin Fantasy theorizes the imaginary state of an infant whose skin-to-skin contact through daily care leads them to feel no physical or psychological boundary between themselves and their mother, a fantasy that will eventually be disrupted by inevitable growth and an awareness of their own skin. This symbiotic dissolving of boundaries between maker and child resonates with Moros’s and Bilbao’s practices, and oddly enough, even more so when their work is placed in curatorial kinship. Where Moros may spend years collecting visual references for her paintings, ranging from Victorian-era prosthetics and the shedding of reptilian skins to the pollination processes of orchids, Bilbao, who works as a scientific laboratory researcher by day, intimately creates sculptural figures from artificial and organic materials, ranging from epoxy clay and resin to tufts of her own hair and animal pelts. The fragmented bodies and small faces she renders tend to evoke the illusion of real psychological discrepancies possible within her figures. While Bilbao reinforces the strange familiarity of the figure through rendering an isolated stance, a blank human glare, the essence of a simple gesture held in suspension, Moros dissociates us from our own cognitive reserves, creating spectral remnants of something that perhaps once belonged to the organic world. Within the framework of the exhibition title, the question almost begs itself: which of the two is the mother, and which is the child? More conclusively, however, it feels as though the answer lies somewhere within the tension of each artist’s relationship to the molding of their own fictional and fantastical environments. The work, made by two devoted and nimble hands spending hours painting the softness of light reflecting off fleshy gums or sanding the delicate and tenuous details of a clay doll’s fingertips, seems to symbolize the infant itself: inevitably adapting, progressively taking up more room, and vulnerably rendering its own skin, open to interpretation and consciousness. Long, square, hot pink-tipped nails bobbing through the dark waters to surgically retrieve them piece by piece, to give to the woman, the sister, whom she just met yesterday. Split ends, chopped and gathered by stubborn, nimble fingers. A woman who often feels still like a girl, with a capacity for smoke in her chamber, raised where sweltering lungs are innate as the impulse to retrieve a note fallen from a stranger’s pocket. She guards what lingers/ People, small things, bones, papers, breath, trails of smoke. I want to read the note resting in the palm of her hand. On it are directions to peer into that small slit of wood, where the early-morning streaks of light radiate through and gently blind you, christen you, and make a promise to you. The light source is not a place, nor a feeling, nor a woman with jet black or bleach blonde hair, not even her alluring residue remains. Their scent untrackable,/ her complexities naturally intact without compromise and internal castration. Broken, split, hollow; where all of the light fits right in. Her dexterous fingers have been modified to maternally fixate on each isolated dog hair she glues back onto her proxy child's head. Pink rosy cheeks representing nothing except perhaps the juncture of a pure slate and a callousness yet to be elaborated by experience. She’s a romantic. Her tooth will grow back overnight. Your projections are devoid of power. The first man she humbled. A bundle of nectar. A dissociating figure. Her first cigarette. A subdued heart drawn in the sand. 30 birds in a wardrobe, longing for permission to fly. Her instincts only partially regulated, still. Step-by-step instructions to flee from this fucking skin, all in the cursive of a stray note from SW First Ave. This skin has yet to weather in some corners, some suppleness she wishes to keep, and other spots she wants to sprout a second, harder, leathered layer. Where penetration is no longer an option unless she first burns the seams off herself. A small yellow light underneath the black swamp water,with a prophetical glow,and her swaying reflection of doe eyes looking back at her with a shaking stillness. This show presents a collection of paintings that explore the intimacy of portraiture through extreme close-ups of the human body and its adornments. In Tip of the Tongue, Bridge of the Nose, Moros uses painting to document the closest people in her life, presenting them in a way that challenges the viewer’s perception of reality, forcing them to question what they are looking at. Moros’ works are a blend of hyperrealism, abstraction, surrealism, and portraiture. She manipulates oil paint into mono-hued paintings that are rich in detail and devoted to care towards the people she paints. Through fragmentation and dissociation, the works delve into the ambiguity of the human form, and the sensations associated with texture, touch, and sight. What is perhaps less potent in this cognitive whirl is the role played by scale, or resolution - the perceptive point of distance from which someone is able to analyse something. If we look upon a sunlit meadow from a sitting position on a blanket, we may see peace and tranquillity; there becomes a point however, where the scale at which the same environment can be observed may reveal the turmoil and violence present throughout the natural world.The latest series of paintings from Miami based artist Alejandra Moros allows us to view symbols of the everyday at a scale that brings out their obscure elegance. She guides us into a semi-secretive space where the objects she paints are defiantly wonderful, transcending any preconceptions we may hold towards them. This is not however the only dimension to the work. As a counterbalance, her paintings also remind us of the corporeal world, the discomfort of seeing skin under tension, a woozy and not completely pleasant interaction of textures.These conflicting ideas complexify what could be seen as technically astounding but deceptively straightforward paintings. Residing inside narrow hues and focusing on only one or two primary elements, the depths to which the work can be experienced are sunk into over time and with space for contemplation.The notion of portraiture, for instance, is probed in examples that focus on fine details of the human body. At the scale Alejandra works at, we will never see a fully formed body, or face, but we may see the curve of an eyelid. If a portrait could be characterised by an inherent sense of intimacy and personal exchange between the artist and the subject, focusing on a specific detail, if anything, deepens the intimacy. It shares with us something ultimately more beguiling, more invasive even, but built on a more sophisticated sense of trust and intention.Inverting the soothing intimacy and challenging closeness, opposing orders of magnitude occasionally crop up in Alejandra’s work. What has its roots in the interior of a shell may briefly resemble a womb or the inner ear, before the eye and mind find themselves staring at some kind of cosmic structure. This may well be the high point in the illusory magic of these paintings: the feeling that you can be a sizeable entity inspecting the minutiae of the mundane, then suddenly roles are reversed and you are a mere fragment, overwhelmed beneath the enormity of existence.Despite the grandeur of these statements, what sits at the core of the work is resolutely humble. Colour, tone and the sensation of a flowing motion caught not by the artist but by the structures of the objects themselves, come together to create something ultimately serene.
